Trusted Source
Created in partnership with the National Trust, Trusted Source is a growing knowledge bank of concise and accessible articles about history, culture and the natural environment. Written by academics and National Trust specialists, these engaging articles are published across the charity’s website and address all manner of subjects related to the important places and collections in their care. Each article is rigorously researched and peer reviewed before being shared online.
The National Trust is Europe’s largest conservation charity. Founded in 1895, it cares for a vast range of cultural and natural heritage in England, Wales and Northern Ireland including coastline, forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, nature reserves, villages, historic houses, gardens, mills and pubs and one of the world's largest art collections.

Who writes for Trusted Source?
Trusted Source articles are written by specialists, both from academia and the National Trust. Researchers from nine UK universities have contributed to date, including the universities of Newcastle, Durham, Hull, Sheffield, Bristol, Leeds, Cambridge, East Anglia and King’s College London.
Where did Trusted Source begin?
Trusted Source was created as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Oxford University and the National Trust, supported by Innovate UK and the AHRC. The project was commissioned to help address the charity’s need for broad, deep, accurate and stimulating content that could help provide visitor experiences that move, teach and inspire. Trusted Source was developed as an online resource which could draw out and showcase the exciting connections between historic collections, places, properties and people to encourage visitors to gain a better understanding of their wider historical, social and geographical context. Visit the Trusted Source KTP project page on the National Trust website here.
Following an initial pilot running from 2016 to 2018, the Trusted Source KTP was graded ‘A: Outstanding’ by InnovateUK, and Alice Purkiss, KTP Associate, was awarded Oxford University’s Vice Chancellor’s Early Career Innovation Award for her work leading the partnership. Trusted Source is now a core programme of the National Trust Partnership at the University of Oxford.
